TimerResolution Setup Guide (Windows 11/10/7)

Warning: The only official site for TimerResolution is lucashale.com. All other sites are copies and may contain malware or other nasties.

  1. Download and extract TimerResolution from the official site.
  2. Double-click timerresolution.exe to launch. Click Maximum to set the highest precision.
  3. Minimize TimerResolution and start your game or audio application.

Using the Command Line (Pro v2 Only)

TimerResolution Pro (v2) supports command line options for automation and background use:

TimerResolution.exe [-max] [-hide]
  • -max: Sets the timer period to the maximum (fastest) value automatically.
  • -hide: Hides the GUI window after launching (runs in the background).

Examples:

TimerResolution.exe -max
TimerResolution.exe -max -hide
  • TimerResolution.exe -max: Launches the app and sets the timer to the fastest value.
  • TimerResolution.exe -max -hide: Launches the app, sets the timer to the fastest value, and hides the window (runs silently in the background).

Note: The command line interface is only available in the Pro (v2) version. Compare versions.

Start TimerResolution Automatically on Login

  1. Right-click timerresolution.exe (or your shortcut) and select Create shortcut.
  2. Right-click the shortcut, select Properties, and in the Target box, add your desired command line options (e.g., -max -hide) after the path.
    Example: C:\Path\To\TimerResolution.exe -max -hide
  3. Press Win+R, type shell:startup, and press Enter to open your Startup folder.
  4. Move or copy the shortcut into the Startup folder.
  5. TimerResolution will now launch automatically with your chosen options every time you log in to Windows.

Tip: Use -max -hide for a silent, automatic experience.

Disabling HPET (Advanced)

Disabling HPET can reduce frametime fluctuations and stutters. Warning: Only recommended for advanced users.

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Run these commands one by one (some may return an error, that's normal):
    bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock
    bcdedit /set useplatformtick yes
    bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes
  3. Open Device Manager, disable "High Precision Event Timer" under System Devices.
  4. Restart your PC.
